Calderdale Evening Chess League
Time-Handicap KO Events May-September 2008
Individual Knockout Rules
For guidance only. The full rules are given in the league handbook.
- The first-named player in the draw is responsible for contacting his opponent
to agree a date, time and venue for their game.
- Time-handicaps are determined by the numerical difference in the grades of the players. The organiser will
assign the most recent YCA grade to each player. If no YCA grade is available, the organiser will seek other information and assign a grade.
The grade of a player will remain fixed throughout the tournament.
- Players with equal grades will have 90 minutes each to complete the game. For each point difference in grade,
the lower-graded player will have one minute more and the higher-graded player one minute less than 90 minutes.
If the grade difference exceeds 80 points, it is assumed to be exactly 80 points for this purpose.
- A player exceeding his time limit loses the game unless his opponent has insufficient material to deliver
checkmate, in which case the game is drawn.
- The lower-graded player has white. Players with the same grade must toss for colours.
- Drawn games shall be replayed with the same time-handicap but with colours reversed. (Players must
agree before the return match on how a further draw should be resolved.)
- The winner of a game is responsible for informing the organiser of the result. Registered users of this web site
may use the web page provided for this purpose.
- If no result is received by the completion date for the round, the first-named player will be eliminated.
In certain circumstances the organiser may grant an extension, or eliminate the second-named player.
- The entry fee is 20p per player.
- The winner of the tournament will hold the Individual KO Trophy for one year.
